Can you name this item?

Situation: I’m in my supervisor’s office (IT Manager) when the Shipping supervisor walks in carrying a slender box about 18 inches long. Let’s call my Boss Lana and the Shipping Supervisor Sam. Sam holds up the box, “I believe this belongs to you Lana.” He pulls something from the box, a long rod with a handle and a large perforator at one end. A perforator is a disk with small spines on the edge used to punch holes, perforations, in material.

Lana looks surprised. “Mine? Why do you think it is mine, I don’t even know what it is!”

Sam: “It’s been at the shipping station for a long time. I don’t know what it is and figure since it is a strange device you would know what it is.”

They get into a frenzied discussion for several minutes regarding the item, what it is, who would know what it is, why we have it, etc. During this discussion Sam frequently gestures with the box and I notice something else is inside. While they argue I lean foreward and grab the box. Inside are several sheets of paper. The first is a standard "Please exercise care when using" disclaimer. The second is more interesting. It discloses the device is a "Carton Resizer" – perfect for making a tall box shorter in a neat, easy way.

Sam wasted at least 20 minutes bringing the box to Lana, without bothering to check the contents for its identity. For your own conclusions about Sam or Lana.
