After reading kryogenic’s post about Mono, I must agree. Python, and one could even say Perl, Ruby, Scheme, etc, already offers cross-platform development, with more flexibility than the .net franchise.
There is something to be said about a language and framework controlled by a single company, especially when said company often shows itself to be very volatile toward others when it feels threatened. That company has shown time and again that it is unworthy of trust. Any implementation of a “Standard” it essentially controls is in danger.
