Act 2005 - Unable to install
Written 08 Jan 2005

OS: MSâ,,¢ Windowsâ,,¢ XP
SP: 2
Act: 2005
Action: Uninstalled ACT 2005
Results: Removes all ODBC drivers from System
Fix: uninstall service pack 2. Reinstall MDAC 2.8. Reinstall ACT (if that is your goal). Reinstall service pack 2.

Why: I have know idea. Uninstalling a program should never remove all the ODBC drivers, only the ones it installed. However ACT 2005 apparently ignores that.

Description: When trying to (re)install ACT 2005, the process halts when attempting to start the new services. This is when it actually starts the embedded SQL Server. An error occurs (1631 I think is the number) and the installation is rolled back (nothing is installed). Checking the SQL Server log (c:\Program Files\MS SQL Server\Act\LOGS) shows <quote>Stopping after receiving 'stop' request from Service Control Manager.</quote>

If you meet the above criteria for Operating System and are having problems with Act, you might try the described procedure.
