Adventures As Me

Comments: part annoying...

The blog comment process needs rethought, at least for bBlog. It is far too easy for spammers to comment. When the development version 'hits the streets' it will give some more tools to bloggers, in the form of captcha's. However I think more tools are needed.

For example, we have a flood threshold, which is blog owner configurable. I would like to add the ability for my blog to auto add IP's to a blacklist. IP's that keep trying to post during the flood threshold (symptomatic of bots).

If I have a blacklist of IPs, I want bBlog to not produce any RDF/trackback URL/RSS info for requests from a blacklisted IP. Even go one step further and block the comment form from appearing.

How about an easy method of enabling/disabling comments for existing posts?

If an IP is blacklisted, but a legit user visits from the blacklisted IP address, he should merely click a link/button that enables him to post a comment. This would handle spammers using computer farms.

Get what I mean? More and better tools.
