Adventures As Me

From here to There: Moving

Written 07 Nov 2005

There are at least two ways one can go about relocating:

  • Pack up everything and go
  • Get rid of all but the necessities/expensive items and go

Method one is great for small moves: across town, to a different county, moves less than a few hours distant. Otherwise the expenses start accumulating. Unless of course, someone else is paying (employers for example).

Method two is great when paying for all expenses yourself.

Of course each has its pros and cons. Thus when I accepted a job offer mid-October, that entails a cross-country move, we had to decide which method to use. We chose option 2.

Only my son kept the bulk of his possessions. Of course, how many thigns can an 8 month old have? A week ago, we sold the bulk of our possessions. What did not sell, we donated to charity (tax write-off ;)). THe money from the sale will cover our moving expenses, which is great because we are paying for the move.

    Our house is bare.

This week is my last at my current employer. This weekend, my father and I are driving cross-country. Trip length: 2500+ miles (4,000+ km). Here is a shorter route, via Google Maps. We won't follow this route as we intend to stop at my parent's house in Flagstaff.

Due to this move I disappeared from the online world. I am scheduled to return in the beginning of December 2005.
